MEDICAL
MISSIONS
Arlen R. Stauffer, MD
**Coronado Community United
Methodist Church is a community
whose mission is “Serving God,
Sharing Love.”  When people join our
church, they promise to support the
church through their prayers, their
presence, their gifts, and their service.
As we become Christ’s hands, feet,
and voice in a suffering world, we find
ourselves
Traveling on the Wings of
Grace
, offering healing and hope to
God’s children at home and abroad.
Brenda and I have led medical missions to Peru, Bolivia, Panama, Honduras,
Nicaragua, Mexico, and Guatemala, and we returned from a trip to Ecuador
in July 2008 (
SEE VIDEOS HERE.)  We worked in the Amazon rainforest basin
of Peru on August 1, and invite you to r
ead about the trip on our team web
site.  We are re-born and re-energized each time, and we thank God for the
time and ability to serve in these poverty stricken portions of our
hemisphere.    Mackenzie, now a married college grad and a
n ESOL teacher
a
t Holly Hill Elementary School (and a Master's student), accompanied us on
these mission trips since she was
12 years old, and she has developed a
real servant's heart, planning and
participating in additional missions
to India, Australia, and Costa Rica on
her own.... We love her!

She is one of our Spanish translators
in Central and South America.
Most of our missions are organized
through our church (see below **), and
most of our team members have been
members of CCUMC.
I am currently the USA Medical Director
for
Missionary Ventures USA, a faith-based, interdenominational
organization based in Orlando.  MVUSA supports the development of
churches, schools, feeding centers, clinics, and much more in over 50
countries around the globe.

Dr. Phil Plunk works
with the people of rural
Guatemala, and has
established a medical and
dental clinic in Camanchaj,
in the highlands of this poor
Central American country.
Our medical-surgical team
worked at the clinic in 2006,
and posed for this team
picture.
Phil has recently been
hosting teams to build a
pre-school next to the
clinic, the only pre-school
within many miles, hoping to
give the 4 and 5 year old
children in this area a head
start in learning Spanish,
and therefore a chance to
perform well in school, and
maybe - just maybe - have a
chance to break out of the
cycle of poverty that has
controlled their families and
lives for generations.
See a
short video from Phil here...
